Industrial relations and personnel issues

This area of board responsibility under National Administration Guidelines 3 is an area that has the potential to expose a board to significant legal risk, and is therefore an area that needs to be addressed carefully and professionally.

The employer role is not one that all trustees have experience with and the employer requirements under the State Sector Act are significantly different to requirements for employment in the private sector.

GMS is a team of highly experienced individuals who have experience in dealing with personnel and industrial relation issues.

We provide both hands on and telephone based advice and guidance for ongoing issues and/or ‘one off’ situations. It is very important that your board is aware that key personnel in our team are endorsed and approved by insurers of boards when advice on personnel or industrial relations matters are needed.

Team members are experienced in mediation in the Employment Mediation Service and in the Employment Authority.

As experienced trainers we are happy to provide training on any aspect of employer responsibilities; we tailor training/mentoring to suit specific employer needs.

Our goal is to work with your board so that when we complete our assignment board members have advanced their skills, experience and knowledge in becoming more effective trustees.
